Dr. Cristina Magi-Galluzi

Dr. Magi-Galluzzi is Division Director of Anatomic Pathology, Section Head of  Genitourinary Pathology, and Professor of Pathology at the University of Alabama at  Birmingham. She received her MD at the University of Ancona, School of Medicine, Italy  and her PhD in Oncologic Human Pathology at the University of Verona, Italy. She has  completed her residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at Rush University Medical  Center in Chicago (1997-1999) and Brigham & Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical  School in Boston (1999-2001), followed by a fellowship in Urologic Pathology at the  Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore (2001-2003). After her fellowship training, Dr.  Magi-Galluzzi was recruited as staff Pathologist at the Cleveland Clinic, where in 2007 was promoted to Assistant Professor at the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine  (CCLCM), in 2010 to Associate Professor, and in 2014 to Professor. She has been  Director of Genitourinary pathology at the Cleveland Clinic from 2004 to 2018. In October 2018, she joined the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at  Birmingham (UAB). Since 2019 she holds the C. Bruce Alexander Endowed  Professorship in Pathology at UAB. 
 

Her clinical expertise is the pathological diagnosis of genitourinary diseases, including  prostate, bladder, testicular, adrenal and kidney malignancies. Her research interest  focuses on prostate carcinogenesis and in the discovery and validation of tumor markers  and genomic tests of value in furthering the goals of successful treatment and  understanding of the pathogenesis of genitourinary disease. She is the author of  numerous (~255) peer-reviewed publications, invited reviews and book chapters, as well  as the editor of three books on genitourinary pathology. She has presented and lectured  extensively at national and international meetings and has conducted national and  international courses, workshops and slide seminars in urological pathology. She is a  founding member of the Genitourinary Pathology Society (GUPS), and has been a  member of the USCAP Board of Directors from 2018 to 2021. Currently, she is the  Secretary of the Arthur Purdy Stout Society (APSS).
